About the Harford Community Tennis Association
HCTA logo

The HCTA is a USTA member Community Tennis Association. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and support of tennis here in Harford County, Maryland.

Community tennis associations (CTA's) are the USTA's grass roots organizations, established locally to understand and provide for the tennis needs of their own communities. HCTA provides tennis ladders and leagues for adults and juniors in the community and provides community services. If you play tennis and love the game, HCTA is an organization you should consider joining.

Founded in 1997, HCTA has worked with governmental organizations for more than $1,250,000 in facility improvments, offered a broad spectrum of adult programming, sponsored Junior leagues and tournaments and provided tennis lessons and events to the Boys and Girls Club. Our endeavors have won us the USTA Maryland District's CTA of the Year Award (1999).

HCTA supports and helps to run competitive ladders for women's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.  HCTA also supports competitive play during the summer months in men's and women's doubles.

USTA was started in Harford County 3 years ago for 3.0 and 3.5 women, and the HCTA has supported the continued growth of USTA tennis in Harford County. There is now a 40+ women's league and a combo league in addition to the adult leagues for 3.0 and 3.5 women.

HCTA sponsors several socials throughout the year at the indoor tennis facility, Emmorton Tennis Center. HCTA donated money to Harford Community College to install benches on their courts and donated money to the Emmorton Recreation and Tennis Center to install new curtains on two of their courts.

And for the future:

HCTA continues to look for ways to grow tennis in Harford County – Membership fees have supported the installation of a new gate on the tennis courts at a local high school. We have discussed the possibility of purchasing windscreens for use at another area high school. Last spring HCTA volunteers initiated an instructional program for Harford County Boys and Girls Clubs.

We will also continue to look for ways to expand USTA tennis in Harford County as the response has been very enthusiastic. Ideally we would like to find a man to step up to try to encourage men’s USTA play – we continue to work on that. Currently we have 2 socials planned for this year with hopefully more to be scheduled. We use these as an opportunity to recruit new players.
